A couple of updates: 1) Oliver. We have not put him down yet. His vet came up with a medicine that reduced the inflammation of the cancer allowing him to go to the bathroom by himself. This only worked for about a week, now Dean and I catheterizing him daily. He just has way too much energy to put him down. 2) Wireless Policy. This is a trial fix of the problem. We have gotten feedback both ways on this issue; please let us know what you think by emailing us your thoughts. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to let us know what they think.

This is our dog Oliver, he will be 9 years old in May. We found out last week he has cancer and not long to live. What does this have to do with the Cafe? Well, the cafe was almost named Oliver....and he is the reason Dean and I may be a little down these days (he is a boxer).

As we approach our second anniversary Dean and I are still trying to figure out what the Wilde Roast Cafe is all about, and how to best serve our customers. We know we are so lucky that many people find this a great third home. In the evening (starting January 1st) to help us create a gregarious atmosphere we are dimming the lights and turning off the wireless (the wireless will also be off all weekend). We want people to be more social. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to you. Tom and Dean

Jimmy from Fiori finished the decorating for Holidays yesterday. Again, the mantle is perfect! It has a more woodsy look this year; pine cones and greens with dark maroon ribbon with silver apples and pears. Thanks James! Come by the cafe to check out his work.

Check out our urns this weekend when on the Q Crawl. Scott (owner of Tangletown Gardens) is so talented he has turned our urns into beautiful trees....did you know Tangletown is open year-round? They are selling Christmas Trees and trimmed wreaths now.

The new issue of Lavender has an article on Urban Coffee Shops...check it out at this link: http://www.lavendermagazine.com/artman/publish/article_1760.php

Yesterday was World's AIDS Day. Can you believe that AIDS has been an epidemic for 25 years? And that over 25 million people have died from this disease? Dean and I went to pick up our tuxedos for our ceremony and the 20ish young man helping us asked, "Why does everyone have a red ribbon on today?" Amazing! I could not believe that the red ribbon was not common knowledge. The Wilde Roast Cafe catered the Grand Opening of Clare House yesterday. Clare House is the newest part of the AIDS Care Partners (BINGO A GO GO). The Clare House is located several blocks north on Central of the cafe. Here is an article on the Clare House: http://www.lavendermagazine.com/artman/publish/article_1693.php The Lavender Book Club was packed last night when author Neil Willenson read from his book A Journey of Hope: Inspiring Stories of Courage and Unconditional Love. The book is an anthology of poems and stories written from Camp Heartland's staff and campers. Camp Heartland is a camp for kids living with HIV/AIDS. Several of the campers were present and read their stories from the book. The stories were really inspiring, like Lupe who for her 21st birthday wants to have a fundraiser for Camp Heartland because it has made such a difference in her life. Query Booksellers still has some copies of the book to sell.
