The summer seems so busy with so much darn day light, I just feel so guilty not working on the yard. The winter is a time to stay in and read. But, the fall is the best time to get outside and enjoy Minnesota. You need to come by the cafe and see the urns in front. Scott from Tangletown Gardens has outdone himself!

On our last day in DC we visited the FDR Memorial. This was a great reminder of what our country is all about. I only wish the people in office right now would tour this memorial. FDR QUOTE from memorial: We must scrupulously guard the civil rights and civil liberties of all citizens, whatever their background. We must remember that any oppression, any injustice, any hatred, is a wedge designed to attack our civilization.

Dean and I toured the Mall area of DC yesterday. On our tour we visited the Holocaust Museum. I was reminded of the cliche every high school history teacher must tell his/her students at least 100 times a year: "Those who fail to study history will be forced to relive it." Now, I think many must be just taking this statement literally...sure when a guy named Hitler comes to power I will stop him this time. This cliche is a figurative statement. History is not repeated exactly, the themes are repeated. The fact that people will be ruled and controlled better if the have a common enemy, and they fear that this enemy will do harm to them. Humm...doesn't this sound like how the the gay marriage issue was used to win many elections last year? If we allow gays to marry then people will want to marry their dogs. Hence ruling via fear and control. Get the gist? False prophets preaching hate to control is the lesson we should have learned in high school. At the Jefferson Memorial I was reminded of the Declaration of Independence: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.

Dean and I are going to Washington, DC this weekend...so, of course it gets really busy to test our staff. Jason and Jeff are going to try to keep up to last weekends numbers (which was our largest non-KARE 11 weekend ever) plus make 200 box lunches. Add on to that the Log Cabin Republicans are going to be having a meeting on Sunday with their national spokesman Patrick Guerriero from 2pm to 4pm. Whew....thanks Jason and Jeff!

Wow! You can tell the cold weather is here, because our cafe is getting very busy again. Due to the amount of customers we are getting we have now put out signs on the larger tables saying they are "Reserved for groups of 2 or more during busy times." Thank you for understanding and support of the Wilde Roast Cafe. If you know of anyone who is looking for a cook job let them know we are hiring cooks! Our applications are available online.

Thanks to everyone who attended the Illume International event on Saturday. All enjoyed the drummers, dancers, Sam's wine, Mary's chocolate, Wilde Roast Cafe appetizers and of course the beautiful garden center of Tangletown Gardens.
