Our Pride Float

» posted by Brian | link

Did you see the Pride Parade yesterday? We had a blast and introduced the Wilde Roast Cafe dancing rainbow cake slices. It was an idea that my friend Neil had last year, but we had no idea on how to make the slices look great. Then last November we met DJ Gramann, a local designer, and told him about our idea and asked him if he could pull it together. Well, it must of worked because we won the Twin Cities Pride Parade 2005: Pride Spirit Award! Thanks Neil and DJ...and of course the talented dancers who made the slices come to life. I will try to get a picture online soon..so keep checking.

Summer: road construction and gardens. Well, we have them both. The road in front of the cafe is being worked on for the next 3 weeks...YIKES! But, we still have parking in the rear of the cafe...plus Barry says he "likes the views of the construction workers from the window." Come to the Wilde Roast Cafe and have an iced drink, and enjoy the views.
As far gardens go check ours (Dean and Tom's) out at this web site for Minneapolis gardens: http://www.minneapolisblooms.org/brochure.htm

We are getting ready for a big PRIDE week. You will be able to see the Wilde Roast Cafe playing volleyball in the park on Saturday, bring treats to the Front Runners Pride Run, and of course in the parade on Sunday with a really cool float...I can't reveal details of the float, but trust me it will be fun....pray for sun this year!

The First Annual SUMMER OF PRIDE was a huge success. We are guessing around 400 people came to see the unveiling of the artwork by A. Whelihan, check out all the GLBT summer events, and of course pick up the Lavender Pride Edition. Come by the cafe during the next month and see the 3D original art work...then bid on it online at: http://www.lavendermagazine.com/summerofpride/whelihan_auction.php
A thanks goes out to US Foods, Grape Beginnings, Phillips Spirits, Charlie Rounds and BOOM, Franklin Street Bakery, our friends Dave, Dean, Lee, and Bill, Jason our chef and of course Barry from Lavender!

This Friday is the KICK OFF to the Summer 0f 2005 at the Wilce Roast Cafe. Yes, this is creating some stress...the details! Getting the permit for the 30 X 40 foot tent, the extended liquor permit, the music, the artist...our list seemed to be endless...but, now the real stress comes: Will it rain? Will people come? Will too many people come? ARUGHHH! What we hope happens is that many people come to find out all the really cool GLBT things that are happening this summer in Minnesota. I think I will sleep in on Saturday.

I can't believe the school year is almost over....and summer will start as of June 15th! The sad part is that I will be leaving my job as a 4th grade teacher at Capitol Hill. The good news is that the cafe is busy enough to support Dean and myself.
I will be still working for St. Paul Schools, but only part time...and I am not sure where. Well, I will finally have time to work in my garden.
