Tomorrow is a BIG day for us. We have a box lunch order for 225 people. This is exciting for us because it is a test of how much we can do. Thanks to several of our staff putting in an extra shift we will get it done, but still it will be a nice test. Wish us luck!

Oscar Wilde said, "Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative." So, stop getting up at 6:45 and get up at 6:15 and take a walk at dawn. Find a new way to drive to work (like by the WIlde Roast Cafe for coffee). Switch chores with your partner next Saturday. Buy a wok. Study wildflowers. Stay up alone all night. Read. Don't write to your congressperson, take a whole scout troop to see them. Learn a new language. Teach a kid what you do best. Listen to Mozart. Leap out of the rut. Savor life. Remember we only pass this way once.

It just seems that Dean and I are lucky, but really it has been a lot of work for us to make this dream of Dean's come true. And, things just keep getting better. I have a HUGE announcement to make....save Friday, October 15th for a night of ROMANCE at the Wilde Roast Cafe.
John Trones is holding a CD release party for his new CD called "Romance." John is a local actor and musician who has several other CDs. He picked the Wilde Roast Cafe because he felt it fit with the album.

I have some exciting news! Every morning I watch Ch 11 Morning Show with Kim and Tim. I have probally seen over 2000 "Coffee with KARE" segments. Well, on Thursday, October 14th the Salon/Speak Out will be featured. Watch to see our mug, little Oscar, and a Speakeasy Magazine. The event is fundraiser for The Loft, we are going to give 10% of our sales from that night to them. Yes, I am sort of a geek...but, this is really exciting to me.

Last night Dean and I attended the HRC Dinner. We were surprised by the "Secret Speaker" of the evening, John Kerry's daughter. Don't know what HRC is? It is the Human Rights Campaign. A non-profit organization that pushes for GLBT rights. If you have not hear about them check out their web site. www.hrc.org

Why do I dislike writing? I know a good writer when I read their work, but becoming a good writer is not as easy as knowing how to identify one. That is why I am amazed by The Loft. The Loft is celebrating their 30th Anniversary, but I only started hearing about it after we opened the cafe....because the staff at The Loft has been very supportive of us (THANKS Antay, Sarah and Bart). What is The Loft? It is a writing center for adults and kids. You can take non-credit writing courses to improve your writing skills (by real authors).
Check it out www.theloft.com (see links page).
Well, why am I telling you this? Because we are joining forces with them on our Salon Night. Four months out of the year we will use their magazine (speakeasy magazine)topic and resources to have a "Speak Out" Salon. This is very exciting for us as we want to become more than a cafe, we would like to be a place alive with community. We hope to see you at our first Salon Night held October 16th with the topic of "Living with Fear"...Oscar's 150th Birthday.

Just a couple of NOTES on our food:
1) Mary (one of chefs) entered some of her homemade jams into the State Fair again this year. She has won numerous ribbons for her jams in the past. Mary makes all of the jams for the Wilde Roast Cafe, so make sure to tell her how great they taste.
2) We are now using Chocolate Celeste for our chocolate grams, pretzel sticks and Oreos.....YUMMM!
3) Jason and Dean are working on the fall changes to the menu. Look for the updated menus soon. We added a pasta special for this week that might end up on the fall menu.
