It’s a restaurant that makes some of the most sumptuous pastries and cakes in the Twin Cities. You don’t have to take my word for it — I’m easy and would hock my grandmother’s silver for a slice of their amazing carrot cake — you can also call up the cover of the September 2006 issue of Bon Appetit, which featured “La Bete Noire,” a flourless chocolate cake made on-site…..KNOW HOW TO MAKE A DECENT ESPRESSO….

Last week Dean and I went to Palm Springs for spring break.  We spent a day in Johsua Tree Park, it was a little nicer than it was here last week!

In November Dean and I decided to put the cafe “on the market.”  We hated the thought of losing the only GLBT restaurant in the cities, but sales dropped after the I 35 bridge collapse.

Thanks to our GREAT staff and customers sales shot up in January, even with the recession and many restaurants reporting a drop in sales.

I think many people heard word that the cafe was for sale (and it WAS) but we took it off the market last month. I hope this ends any worry that the Wilde Roast Cafe won’t be around for a long time to serve the NE Community, the GLBT community, and anybody who likes great food.

Three Cat Media is proud to announce that the “Don’t Mess with Bill: A Cabaret Celebration” with be held on April 12th at 8:00pm at Camp Bar in St. Paul, Minnesota. A handful of Minnesota’s best musical talent will join forces to raise money to benefit documentary film “Don’t Mess with Bill: The Story of Dorothy Fairbairn”.

This fun filled evening will be an opportunity to not only see Twin Cities cabaret favorites, but to celebrate Dorothy Fairbairn’s 75th birth, to view and purchase the artwork of Ms. Fairbairn, and a chance to win one of the fantastic raffle prizes. Tickets are $10 at the door.

All proceeds benefit the documentary film “Don’t Mess with Bill: The Story of Dorothy Fairbairn”. “Don’t Mess with Bill: The Story of Dorothy Fairbairn” follows the life of Dorothy Fairbairn from her childhood on Chicago’s Southside in the 1930’s to life as a lesbian elder in today’s world. Through interviews with Dorothy and her friends, we will learn what life was like for lesbians in Toronto, Canada in the 1950’s. We will learn about life for the Minnesota lesbian community in the 1960’s and 1970’s and how Stonewall affected the lives of the Twin Cities GLBT Community.

Did you see that Denny Kemp Salon and Spa moved in across the street from us?  They were at down the block on Hennepin and now they are at 605 Central Ave.  It is great seeing the neighborhood improve…when we first opened many people told us that nothing stays open north of 5th.  So please welcome Denny Kemp Salon and Spa 612.676.0300.

This year, 134 participating restaurants have agreed to donate a portion of their proceeds to The Aliveness Project, a local nonprofit organization that provides on-site meals, food shelf & other supportive services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and their families.

Last year’s Dining Out for Life raised $112,000 in donations from restaurants, sponsors and individual diners!

The Wilde Roast Café is not a participating restaurant this year to encourage people to eat at a more costly place.  For a list of this year’s restaurants.

This year the Wilde Roast Cafe is not having a team for the walk, but the Minneapolis Movie Bears (good friends of ours) is having a team.  I will be on that team, so you can join Team Minneapolis Movie Bears for the 21st MN AIDS Walk on May 18th….or just donate to me and help me get a IPOD!
