I am very sad to have to tell you that we are permanently closing Napa
Jack’s this Saturday night. Like a bunch of wine grapes, we’re crushed.
We feel like we’re losing a family. We see you every day - the cute
kids, the crazy dogs, everyone who stepped up to our tasting bar. We’re
thrilled that you trusted us, welcomed us, and made us your favorite
wine shop. We’ll never forget the neighborhood parties, the homemade
holiday cards, the fresh-baked cookies you would drop off
I felt wealthy even though that wasn’t the financial reality.
Napa Jack’s was different - a shop with a soul. But we were also the
classic under-capitalized small business. We were so close, but we ran
out of runway. There’s really no other option. I’m sorry.
Pooh and Susan: Owners
Today I stopped by to see Lyel in his new location at Vera’s (http://www.verascafe.com/). Query looks great! His space is not as big as it was before, but it is filled with books and magazines. Swing in a say hi.
When you are in the Lynn-Lake area swing by and check out evolution: experience hair culture (http://evolutionhair.com/). Michael Dahl is one of the owners (he is hot…but straight), and is soon to be engaged to my niece, Danielle. I know several of our customers get their hair cut at evolution, so it is VERY gay friendly.
Don’t forget to say hi to our friend Audie at (http://www.lyn-lakebarbershop.com/main.html) when you are in the Lyn-Lake area.
Several days ago I was downtown Stillwater meeting some people from work. Across the street I saw one of our regular customers, who has not been in for awhile, holding hands with her girlfriend. I yelled “What are you doing down here?”
She didn’t see it was me, so she yelled back “We can be here, she lives here!” I could tell she was very angry and sort of scared (must be because of how butch I look).
I got closer to her and took off my hat…then she saw it was me. She grabbed me with a huge hug. I could tell she was really sort of frightened. “Some guy was looking at us weird in the coffeeshop, and I thought you were him.”
Well, she should have been at the Wilde Roast Cafe I thought, but said you know gay people live here too.
I took two things from this:
1) Don’t stereotype Stillwater…nice people like Dean and me live out here (actually in Lake Elmo).
2) How awful it must feel to think people are going to be angry at you because of who we are….I have never had a bad experience with this…so, it was odd.
At the Wilde Roast Cafe: We will be serving up an Irish treat for Oscar - Guinness Pie!
