Busy Boys

Posted August 31st, 2006 at 8:41 pm by Tom

School started for me this week, well staff training.  Kids start to come next week.  If you forgot I am at Valley Branch ELC (valleybranch.spps.org) this year.  This is a St. Paul Public School postion in Afton on 1200 acres of land.  So, every third and fifth grader in the district will be my student this year.

Many of our staff is starting school so Dean is training many new WRC staff members…..be nice to them!  Add on to this Dean’s brother’s wedding in mid-September.

Fall is a great time of year…just busy.

WRC at the State Fair?

Posted August 27th, 2006 at 10:48 pm by Tom

statefair.gif Well, not really but Dean and I love the State Fair (I think Dean really likes it because it means I am going back to work).  We only have a few ties to the fair this year for you to look for:

* Farm Boy Clothing is again available at the fair

* Mike Welton, an artist who’s art was at the cafe this year, had a painting titled GRANDVIEW picked for the Fine Arts Exhibition.  You might remember his painting of Micky’s Diner.

SPIN Magazine

Posted August 21st, 2006 at 8:11 am by Tom

SPIN.jpgCheck out p125 in the September 2006 SPIN magazine.  In the section: SPIN 101 The Best Nights Out This Month.  Under Minneapolis they list Wilde Roast Cafe as a daily thing to do.

Its shrine to Oscar Wilde and the nearby GLBT bookstore Query make this coffeehouse a popular gay and lesbian hangout.  But the extensive wine list, excellent desserts, and free Wi-Fi (during the week) draw patrons of all persuasions.

Thanks SPIN!

Target as a Target?

Posted August 17th, 2006 at 7:00 am by Tom

target.jpg

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into a national chain again.  We have all heard about the issues in supporting Wal*Mart and Sam’s.

But, did you read in the Star Tribune last week about Target’s PAC giving?  79 % went to the Republician Party.  Also, Robert Ulrich (Target’s CEO) gave Senator Bachman $9,200 for her campaign against Patty Wetterling.

What to do?  Call OutFront and give: time or money.

TBLT in Pioneer Press

Posted August 10th, 2006 at 9:56 pm by Tom

What’s the best way to commemorate tomato season?  With a BLT of course, according to Kathie Jenkins (Restaurant Critic for the Pioneer Press).

Kathie listed our TBLT one of top 5 in the Twin Cities.  “This Nordeast cafe turns out a TBLT, adding a sliced turkey twist to the mix of smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese and chipotle mayonnaise.”

Thanks Kathie!
