Hey..our good customer, Amy Salloway, is back in the Fringe this year. We saw her show last year and it was super funny.

Her show this year is 100% new material. So go see So Kiss Me Already, Herschel Gertz! in the Minnesota Fringe Festival a solo work-in-progress about adolescence, angst, and Jewish summer camp….Shipped off to a sleep-away camp so Jewish that “even the mosquitoes wear yarmulkes!”, Amy spends her fifteenth summer treading the perplexing waters of love and like, faith and freakouts, Hebrew and hormones…and how to survive being the pork chop in an all-Kosher world. It is showing at the Jungle Theater (2951 Lyndale Avenue South).

The auction was a big success for MAP. The art sold for $3,500…all of that money goes to MAP. They also raised money by selling the buttons of the art for $20/each…you will still be able to buy buttons at Query Booksellers until they run out. Lavender paid for the buttons and gave they to MAP to sell. Also sold last night was copies of the artwork. Robyne Robinson was perfect as the emcee…she helped increase the amount the art sold for by over $1,000…Thanks!

Summer of Pride auction

Posted July 25th, 2005 at 11:09 am by Tom

Don’t miss this Wednesday’s event!

We are hosting the Summer of Pride auction (6:30 pm). Besides meeting Anthony Whelihan (the artist of this year’s Pride Edition of Lavender) you can rub shoulders with Robyne Robinson. She will be the auctioneer for the event. If you win the auction you not only get the original artwork you also get your face or company’s logo incorporated into next year’s Pride Edition Lavender cover done by Whelihan! Great ad space.

If the original work is out of your budget you can buy pins of the art work for only $20. ALL of the proceeds will go to M.A.P. (Minnesota Aids Project)! There will also be a drawing for a FREE full-page ad in next year’s Pride Edition of Lavender….just drop your card off in the bin.

The event will be a fun event with “Live mannequins,” food, drinks….all for a good cause. Tell all of your friends to join us.

The Lavender Book Club is meeting this Saturday (23rd) at 7pm. The author is from the cities (in fact I have taught his nephew and nieces), but currently lives in West Hollywood. He is sort of HOT and the book makes good beach reading.

I know I am risking looking dumb…but, did you know the redwoods were pines? I didn’t! I guess all the pictures I saw growing up were of the trunks and not of the branches. Well, now I know they are pines. The Russian River is in a redwood forest…. today we are taking a day trip to see the giant redwoods.

This vacation was very much needed….it took Dean 2 days just to relax….I over work him. The place we are staying at has help us relax (http://www.villageinn-ca.com/index.html). It has a beautiful view of the river and the temps drop into the 50’s at night. I love sleeping with a comforter (days are in the 90’s…nice pool weather). The owners of the inn are gardeners and have been helpful in answering my questions about the plants they can grow.

To write the trip off we went to several vineyards and did some sampling for the cafe…and of course we wore our Wilde Roast Cafe shirts (often) to advertise the cafe. We will be back on Tuesday morning.

The Dog Days of Summer….this heat is killing me, so Dean and I are getting out of town this week. We are going for the week to the Russian River in California (about an hour north of SF). We plan to relax on the river, see the red wood forest, test some new wine….and maybe head to the ocean for a day. The most important thing I want to do is relax. So, we will leave Wilde Roast to our capable staff for the week.

Happy 4th of July.

My favorite 4th was when I was in the 5th Grade and we studied the bicentennial all year. Yes, this dates me…but, I remember when patriotism was non-partisan. Everyone loved America.

If you were wondering if we will be open today the answer is YES: normal hours (actually we were VERY busy this morning). So, come by for a cool treat after the fireworks on the river tonight….or watch them from our outside seating.
